Mahalia Burkmar, born May 1, 1998, in Syston, Leicestershire, is a British R&B singer, songwriter, and actress. Raised in a musical family with a Jamaican mother and British-Irish father, she was immersed in soul, R&B, and reggae from a young age. Performing at open mics by age 11, she signed her first record deal at 13. Trained at Birmingham Ormiston Academy, she released her debut EP, Head Space (2012), followed by Diary of Me (2016). Her first album, Love and Compromise (2019), explores love and relationships, while IRL (2023) and the Luvergirl EP (2025) incorporate Jamaican influences. She acted in Brotherhood (2016) and was featured on BBC Radio 1’s Brit List (2019). At 27, Mahalia is a rising star in British R&B, known for her soulful voice and introspective lyrics.
